There are three areas to swim in the Delaware Water Gap Recreational Area, the northernmost of which is Milford Beach. The other two are Turtle Beach on the New Jersey side of the park and Smithfield Beach at the southernmost point of the DWGNRA.

There are many fantastic swimming spots throughout the enormous 70,000-acre Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, but it can be difficult to know where to start. Milford Beach is on the park’s northern edge, close to Milford. Thanks to the grassy beach, picnic areas, pavilion, bathrooms, and boat and canoe launch, you may spend the entire day at this location.

There are picnic spots, a pavilion, restrooms, a boat launch, and a canoe launch at Milford Beach. The Joseph M. McDade Recreational Trail’s northern terminus is a grassy beach.

Best for picnics, brief dips, and boat or canoe launches. Of course, children will adore it.

Bring your grill, please. Grilling is permitted at the gorgeous picnic area, but no grills are provided. Swimmers and polar bears can enjoy Milford Beach year-round, but lifeguards are only on duty during the summer. From April through October, a nominal admittance fee is collected per car. Pay a dollar per head if you’re just strolling in. From Memorial Day to Labor Day, pets are not permitted on the beach.

There is no charge for those using the river access ramps to drop off or pick up passengers or for those using the McDade Recreational Trail to travel through Smithfield Beach.
